“Rude (the way you move)” by Grace Kay

Grace Kay releases her new single “Rude (the way you move)” available September 12th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Los Angeles-based songstress and LADYGUNN’s 2025 Artist to Watch Grace Kay releases her new single “Rude (the way you move)” on September 12th via Trailing Twelve. Grace’s effortless cool floats over a groovy electropop track, seamlessly blending classic pop hooks with dreamy synths and a punchy bass line. Her songwriting is so smooth and infectious that it’s easy to overlook the sharpness of her lyrics. “Rude (the way you move)” is a shimmering pop anthem that boldly challenges the norms of a male-dominated society.

Hailing from Los Angeles and shaped by her experience at an all-girls high school, Kay’s music reflects her deep commitment to empowering women. Kay went on to earn a degree in acting from the University of Southern California, which heavily influenced her storytelling in songwriting. Her signature sound blends refined, punchy synth-pop production with intricate rhythms and lush vocal textures, appealing to fans of MUNA, The Japanese House, Imogen Heap, and Caroline Polachek. Kay’s music has received widespread fan support, garnering press coverage from Under the Radar, Ones To Watch, and Atwood, official playlist features on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds: Pop, and sync placements on ABC’s A Million Little Things, CBS’s True Lies, and MTV’s West Coast Hustle.

The song draws from Grace’s experiences navigating various industries where she repeatedly encountered the same patterns of patriarchal entitlement. She cleverly captures a condescending tone in lyrics like, “I can tell you don’t hate me / but if you could, you’d replace me / You say you still care, man, please / yeah, yeah, yeah, sure.” Her perspective reflects the urgency of saying it how it is after finally reaching a breaking point. It’s an accumulation of the exhaustion that comes from constantly walking on eggshells, only to be dismissed when you finally speak up.

“I named the song ‘Rude (the way you move)’ because I wanted the title to say what I never felt allowed to: just blurt out, ‘It’s RUDE’, the way you move!’” says Grace. “In real life (and even in the verses), I’ve always softened those feelings, phrasing them apologetically like ‘You see… the way you move… it’s cruel… it’s… rude.’ Naming the track this way felt like a middle finger to that expectation — a chance to be unapologetic and say exactly what I mean.”

“Rude (The Way You Move)” reclaims the language of oppressive male behavior and turns it on its head. It unapologetically takes up space in an environment built to belittle, and Grace makes it clear she’s not backing down for anyone.

“Rude (the way you move)” is out September 12th, 2025 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.

PRESS & FEATURES

2025 Artist to Watch via LADYGUNN and Sweety High

“Kay is already well on her way to conquering the electropop world with the upbeat syncopation of her previous singles “play” and “fool” (plus one hell of a slowed and contemplative take on ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”). With “Here,” she trades the playful tones and club-ready production for hazy, nostalgic soundscapes reminiscent of M83 at their deepest rearview-gazing.” - Atwood Magazine

Kay balances the dancefloor ready gloss with a sincere emotive core, offering words of gentle encouragement with warm lyricism and poetic imagery.” - Under the Radar

“Between enlightened metaphors and a glowing delivery, "renaissance" pushes listeners to adopt even a touch of the idealism that the rising artist displays so confidently.” - Sheesh
