Walking on the moon with Corserine x Leah Klein’s “Ahsoka Tano” (April 6 2022)

Corserine, Ahsoka Tano

Corserine releases their new single “Ahsoka Tano” available April 6th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

California and central Scotland-based electronic music collective Corserine share their latest blend of nu-jazz and synth-wave with “Ahsoka Tano” set for digital release on April 6th through Los Angeles-based Trailing Twelve Records. The song is taken from Corserine’s upcoming album entitled Symmetry, out May 6th, 2022.

The project acts as a vehicle for the ideas of Caro Tyle (songwriting, production), Gylen Boardman (synthesizers), and Cam Perridge (engineer), with many of their songs featuring guest vocalists and musicians. Growing up in Scotland in the 1980s, one can quickly point to the era for both the sonic and thematic influence behind Corserine.

Featuring sultry vocals from 27-year-old Dallas-based Leah Klein, “Ahsoka Tano” might conjure images of neon-soaked lounges, glistening distant planets, and sleek spacecrafts. Dreamy horns float atop bubbling bass, silky synths, and steady natural percussion, while Klein waxes poetic on transient intimacy. Klein shares the story behind the song below.

The lyrics for [Ahsoka Tano] were inspired by a recent trip I had taken. On my last night, I met a surprising and special person and I didn't feel like we had enough time together. I wrote the song as a way of expressing the "what-if" you feel when you cross paths with someone and the timing isn't right.

Recorded across home studios in Dallas, TX and Scotland, Tyle shares detail on the production inspiration for “Ahsoka Tano” below.

Codeezee, a Twitch streamer, sent me a challenge to write a song about 'walking in space' so I figured an appropriate place to start was “Walking On The Moon” by The Police. If you listen closely, the first chords are all based around the iconic G7 sus 4 sound and this gives the track a very airy, floating feeling. A key change halfway through is another thing that keeps the spacey theme going.

Sometimes I’ll put the TV on in the background while I’m working on a song - the visuals, sounds, and dialogue can help with inspiration. In this case, The Mandolorian was on. I'm a massive fan of the show and Ahsoka was a favorite character in the series - hence the name.

“Ahsoka Tano” is out April 6th, 2022 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve. Listen below.

BIO

Corserine is an electronic music collective of childhood friends from California and central Scotland, formed in 2019. The project is a vehicle for the ideas of Caro Tyle (songwriting, production), Gylen Boardman (synthesizers), and Cam Perridge (engineer), with many of their songs featuring guest vocalists and musicians.

Growing up in Scotland in the 1980s, the members were all surrounded by a unique blend of musical genres and pop culture. With his mother and sister being classically trained pianists, Tyle first honed his skills as a guitarist in various rock and punk bands. In addition to having an encyclopedic knowledge of synthesizers, Boardman is classically trained in cello. The members cite various 1980’s science fiction films as both thematic and sonic inspiration - “in those films, there’s always a nightclub scene set in the not-too-distant futuristic dystopia. We’re basically making the music playing in those scenes.”

Corserine’s blend of dreamy pop textures, gritty electro, and muscular rhythms will please fans of Tycho, Com Truise, and Neon Indian.

Corserine is currently working on a full-length album slated for release in 2022.
