Corserine’s “Demon Seed” Takes Us Into Hyperspeed (2/2/22)

Corserine, Demon Seed

Corserine releases their new single “Demon Seed” available February 2nd on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

California and central Scotland-based electronic music collective Corserine share their gritty synth-wave gem “Demon Seed” set for digital release on February 2nd through Los Angeles-based Trailing Twelve Records. The project acts as a vehicle for the ideas of Caro Tyle (songwriting, production), Gylen Boardman (synthesizers), and Cam Perridge (engineer), with many of their songs featuring guest vocalists and musicians. Growing up in Scotland in the 1980s, one can quickly point to the era for both the sonic and thematic influence behind Corserine.

The pulsating force of “Demon Seed” may conjure images of high fashion runways or neon-soaked speedways. An almost intelligible whisper weaves its way around evolving cosmic synths. The magic of “Demon Seed” is the unrelenting momentum and constantly growing energy of its various sonic textures. Throughout the entirety of “Demon Seed”, all the layers continue to build upon each other, creating constant anticipation while avoiding any gimmicky drops or climaxes.

Recorded entirely in their home studio in Scotland, Tyle shares detail on the inspiration for “Demon Seed” below.

This song is named after a rather obscure science fiction film of the same name about a sociopathic supercomputer. There are some effects in this track that sound like the affected vocals of Robert Vaugh's voice of the Proteus machine in the film. When I first started writing Demon Seed it started off in 6/8 time but I felt this metre was better suited to the middle of the track so it gives the song a slightly unsettling edge

“Demon Seed” is out February 2nd, 2022 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.

BIO

Corserine is an electronic music collective of childhood friends from California and central Scotland, formed in 2019. The project is a vehicle for the ideas of Caro Tyle (songwriting, production), Gylen Boardman (synthesizers), and Cam Perridge (engineer), with many of their songs featuring guest vocalists and musicians.

Growing up in Scotland in the 1980s, the members were all surrounded by a unique blend of musical genres and pop culture. With his mother and sister being classically trained pianists, Tyle first honed his skills as a guitarist in various rock and punk bands. In addition to having an encyclopedic knowledge of synthesizers, Boardman is classically trained in cello. The members cite various 1980’s science fiction films as both thematic and sonic inspiration - “in those films, there’s always a nightclub scene set in the not-too-distant futuristic dystopia. We’re basically making the music playing in those scenes.”

Corserine’s blend of dreamy pop textures, gritty electro, and muscular rhythms will please fans of Tycho, Com Truise, and Neon Indian.

Corserine is currently working on a full-length album slated for release in 2022.
