Evan Blum and Alyce Weber take a neon-fueled drive “Into The Dark” - (6/4/2021)

Evan Blum and Alyce Weber duet on “Into The Dark” available June 4th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

LA-based artist and producer Evan Blum teams up with singer-songwriter Alyce Weber for the electrifying duet “Into The Dark” via Trailing Twelve Records. The song comes on the heels of Blum’s indie-folk duet with Lucy Clearwater “Good In You” along with a steady stream of previous singles.

“Into The Dark” explores the impulses and desires we suppress to protect our emotions. Blum and Weber express the vulnerability of lust and the eagerness to overlook red flags when passions are high.

How’d we end up here again? / Touch me and I’ll fall back in / Ask me to get out of here / And I’ll run

The verse continues with an anticipatory build that ultimately arrives at an exhilarating electro-pop chorus. Blum’s pulsating synth production creates a foundation for an equally cathartic and desperate plea. The combination feels both urgent and nostalgic, like the memory of a future life.

It's not over baby/ Jump back in the car / Forget what I said / Let's drive into the dark

Blum and Weber’s voices weave around and highlight each other. When Weber’s voice is powerful and soaring, Blum’s is soft and understated. When Blum goes into his emotionally rich upper register, Weber’s floats alongside like a silky cloud.

Sometimes a relationship ends before it’s truly over. That lingering feeling that you might have been able to fix things and the longing for might have been. The double-edged sword is that there can be a tendency to sugarcoat the memories of past lovers. To remember the good parts and leave out the bad. We get some additional insight into what the song means for Weber:

To me, [Into The Dark] is sort of a fantasy. In real life, when I know a person or a relationship is ultimately toxic to me, I don't let myself act on my feelings. So this song is sort of an escape into a scenario where you allow yourself to say yes to that person you should probably say no to, and to feel the rush you would get in the moment without any of the consequences that would inevitably follow.

On “Into The Dark,” Evan Blum and Alyce Weber take us out of our comfort zone to embrace the excitement of entering the unknown. Sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones when we throw caution to the wind and give in to life as it’s happening.

“Into The Dark” is out June 4, 2021 on Trailing Twelve.
