Party of the Sun teases their upcoming EP ‘Capsule I’ with the release of the gentle and melancholy “See Through” available February 8th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Party of the Sun is a psychedelic folk band from New Hampshire, comprised of Ethan McBrien, Rory Hurley, and Garrett Cameron. Writing and recording in various nature-bound locations, such as a small New England sheep farm, the band has released two EPs and two full-length albums over the span of just a few years.

“See Through” is the latest in a string of monthly single releases from the New Hampshire-based psych-folk trio Party of the Sun. After releasing their sophomore album Fullest Hour, the band had a moment of clarity in their approach to writing and sharing their music. Singer and songwriter Ethan McBrien explained that while the album process can be gratifying, it can have its limitations. Together the band opted to start writing new material without the restriction of being tied to any specific project or album.

This newfound creative freedom prompted a deliberate and mystical approach to the songwriting process. With the casting of a die, the band devised a chance-based system to select which song is produced each month. The selected song is to be completed by the subsequent full moon, to then be released by the next half-moon.

We see this as an ongoing effort to spark creativity and foster a deeper connection with our listeners. A way to reimagine our workflow and allow new creative doors to open. - McBrien

With the release of “See Through,” Party of the Sun has announced that these monthly releases will be compiled in a series of EPs under the aptly-titled Capsule. The first of these compilations, Capsule I, will be released on March 10th.

“See Through” is a melancholy ballad that takes on various shapes and moods. The verses live in a nostalgic and slightly ominous tone, while the chorus lifts up into a hopeful cadence. McBrien shares that much of the song is a meditation on the shift that occurs when one accepts that “life does not begin, it only continues.” This entry finds producer Rory Hurley continuing to experiment in various ways; notably, the percussion arrangement is primarily a woodblock played with a pencil eraser.

The band has been sharing “journal entries” to coincide with each monthly release - providing a glimpse into the process and the imagery surrounding it. Here’s the entry for “See Through” below.

And now we travel back, into the frozen land. Trees reveal their sinuous spines once more. Forgotten boulders emerge as the canopy withers. "See Through" is complete as autumn’s dream dissolves.

“See Through” is out February 8th and is taken from the upcoming Capsule I EP, out March 10th, 2022 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.
