Party of the Sun release their new single “Under It,” available December 10th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

“Under It” is the latest in a string of monthly single releases from the New Hampshire-based psych-folk trio Party of the Sun. After releasing their sophomore album Fullest Hour, the band opted for a paradigm shift in the way they write and share their music. Singer and songwriter Ethan McBrien explained that while the album process can be rewarding, it can also be limiting. Party of the Sun has since been writing new material without the restriction of being tied to a greater piece or compilation.

This newfound creative freedom has prompted a deliberate and somewhat mystical approach to the songwriting process. With the casting of a die, the band devised a chance-based system to select which song is produced each month. The selected song is to be completed by the subsequent full moon, to then be released by the next half-moon.

We see this as an ongoing effort to spark creativity and foster a deeper connection with our listeners. A way to reimagine our workflow and allow new creative doors to open. - Ethan McBrien, Singer/Songwriter

The result is a monthly cadence of new material that is dynamic, eclectic, and perhaps strays a bit from the signature sound of Party of the Sun.

The band has been sharing what they call “journal entries” to coincide with each release - providing a glimpse into the process and the imagery surrounding it. Here’s the entry for “Under It” below.

The Lion’s Mane flushes and the Fresno peppers fall - it’s the Harvest moon and Rory and I work to complete “Under it”. The canopy’s green lingers on the edge of autumn’s arm - cool air returns with evening light, we walk the hill and the owls call. - Ethan McBrien

“Under It” is out December 10th, 2021 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.
