Grace Kay Enters Her “renaissance” (26 October 2022)

“renaissance” by Grace Kay

Grace Kay releases her new single “renaissance,” available October 26th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Los Angeles-based songstress Grace Kay shares her inspirational ballad “renaissance” set for digital release on October 26th via Trailing Twelve Records. On the heels of landing a major television placement in A Million Little Things with her song “Here,” Kay’s “renaissance” is an indie-pop cut with a positive message about never giving up and making the most out of the difficult periods of life.

In keeping with Grace Kay’s previous singles, “renaissance” was inspired by a close female friend, this time her older sister. Grace sings about going through dark times, coming out on the other side and better for it - entering a ‘renaissance’. “The rain has stopped, a simple song/ Looking through the mirror all along/ Longing for love/ A renaissance”. Grace delves deeper into the meaning and inspiration of the song below,

“Just as the renaissance emerged from the black plague, my sister found her love for art despite the pandemic we’ve all been suffering through. Past just the pandemic, she had gone to a fairly dark place and managed to create joy and art for herself and a way of healing. She’s always been someone I look up to and this is just one more reason I do”

Musically, Grace continues to find new ways to innovate on her bedroom pop sound. Her gentle voice wistfully croons over poppy synths and an 80s electronic drum beat. The production enhances the storytelling of the song as it begins in a lull before euphorically bursting open on the chorus. Much like her previous single “Open” Grace worked with producer Austin Foley aka Jynjo to create a signature sound. Grace discusses her and Austin’s songwriting process below,

“I wrote this on the second day of this year, 2022. It just sort of poured out of me with my writing partner and producer Austin Foley after getting off a long catchup call with my sister. She had been consoling me…I was in a very raw place and she reminded me of hope!”

On “renaissance” Grace Kay creates a beautifully atmospheric tune with a motivational message. With the release of “renaissance,” Grace continues to set herself apart from her contemporaries by inducting her unique flair and charm into each new song.

BIO

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Grace Kay spent her teenage years attending an all-girls high school where she was imbued with a keen desire to empower other women. Bringing that passion into her music, Kay’s songwriting tends to center around the women in her life and the influences they’ve had on her.

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in acting, Kay went on to star in various short films and mini-series, which, she explains, taught her the importance of story in songwriting.

Grace Kay’s sound consists of refined and punchy synth-pop production, syncopated rhythms, and lush vocal textures that will please fans of MUNA, The Japanese House, Imogen Heap, and Caroline Polachek.

Kay’s recent singles have received widespread fan support, garnering press coverage from Atwood Magazine and Alfitude, official playlist features on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds: Pop, and a major sync placement on ABC’s A Million Little Things.

PRESS QUOTES

“Kay is already well on her way to conquering the electropop world with the upbeat syncopation of her previous singles “play” and “fool” (plus one hell of a slowed and contemplative take on ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”). With “Here,” she trades the playful tones and club-ready production for hazy, nostalgic soundscapes reminiscent of M83 at their deepest rearview-gazing.” - Anthony Kozlowski, Atwood Magazine

“Every element has a purpose. The song features minimalistic melodies, sublime vocals, and a memorable chorus. Captivating from the first second.” , “Grace continues to deliver good music. Go Off deserves 5 stars. Iconic piece of work.” - Lefuturewave

“If you know me then you know I love records influenced by the 80s. “Here” by Grace Kay is no exception. I love the production, the guitars, the synths, the melodies, the beautiful topic behind this song and Grace’s dreamy vocals. “Here” is brilliant and it is one of my favorite songs released this Fall.” - thread.
