Party of the Sun release Capsule II EP available August 5th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Party of the Sun is a psychedelic folk band from New Hampshire, comprised of Ethan McBrien, Rory Hurley, and Garrett Cameron. Writing and recording in various nature-bound locations, such as a small New England sheep farm, the band has released three EPs and two full-length albums over the span of just a few years.

The follow-up to their latest Capsule I EP, released in March, Capsule II is the culmination of a string of monthly single releases from the New Hampshire-based psych-folk trio. After releasing their sophomore album Fullest Hour, the band had a moment of clarity in their approach to writing and sharing their music. Singer and songwriter Ethan McBrien explained that while the album process can be gratifying, it can have its limitations. Together the band opted to start writing new material without the restriction of being tied to any specific project or album.

The songs on Capsule II range from atmospheric reflections on Americana guitars, care-free percussion, and timeless folk melodies (“Throughline”) to ambient deconstructions of past Party of the Sun songs (“Thought I Knew // Electric Night,”). While the band experiments sonically from track to track, thematic throughlines are present across the EP. Meditations on nature and fleeting introspective thoughts bubble up throughout the tracklist, adding to its uniquely transportive quality.

The band has been sharing “journal entries” to coincide with each monthly release - providing a glimpse into the process and the imagery surrounding it. The entry for the EP’s closer “In the Hall” is below.

We record “In the Hall” as the leaves swell green. Plant thirst is quenched by the rolling the storm - viridian light coats the hill. Thunder hums through the Brickhouse walls and shakes our memory, old spirit creeps in... We track and go with take 2.

After the rain, we walk the hazy land. Ewes graze the lower parcel and Jerseys munch on high -past the balsam firs where the boulders rest. The full moon is obscured by clouds, we wander in low light…
