Thavoron releases “Twin Sized Bed,” available November 2nd on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Seattle, Washington-based Thavoron (Tav-er-on) shares his new single & music video “Twin Sized Bed” set for digital release on November 2nd through Trailing Twelve Records. Following the release of his single “18”, Thavoron returns with “Twin Sized Bed” - a minimalist indie-folk cut focusing on the journey to loving and accepting oneself, filled with heartbreaking lyrics supported by stark and haunting guitar.

Growing up as a first-generation Cambodian-American and writing songs about queer relationships, 22-year-old Thavoron approaches the alternative and indie rock genres with a distinctive and refreshing perspective. Much like Thavoron’s previous releases “Twin Sized Bed” pulls heavily from his personal experiences, in this case growing up in middle-class American suburbia and the unique feelings of loneliness and ennui this lifestyle can create.

Ever since I was a kid, my parents made sure I never, ever had to sleep on a twin-sized bed. They never made me ride the bus to school in the morning if the roads were icy. They always made sure we had access to the internet so my sister, brother, and I could entertain ourselves while they weren’t home. I was always fed and protected, yet I felt alone for basically my entire childhood.

The lyrics on “Twin Sized Bed” encapsulate the feeling of comfortable isolation [“When I was younger I wished I was taller / So I could reach you in a different tone / Maybe if I was more like my father / I’d learn to hurt you first then leave you alone”]. In his own words, this song is “an inner roar and the warmest hug from myself to myself.”

While the production is minimal, Thavoron’s vocals are full of yearning and convey emotions on a grand scale. A singular guitar line plays throughout the song and adds to the intimate tone set by the lyrics. Thavoron wrote, performed, and produced the entirety of “Twin Sized Bed” in his bedroom to make the experience “as bare as possible.”

In the music video for “Twin Sized Bed," directed by Maddie Ludgate, we see Thavoron dancing, posing, and screaming in a bright white void. The exactness of his movements are blurred, reflected, and layered on top of each other - visually representing the confusion, self-reflection, and isolation within the lyrics and production.

Thavoron’s “Twin Sized Bed” is out November 2nd, 2022 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.

BIO

Thavoron is a 22-year-old first-generation Cambodian American artist based in Seattle, Washington. Layering angelic vocals and intimate lyricism over heart-breaking sonic progressions, Thavoron pulls inspiration from contemporaries such as Frank Ocean, Faye Webster, and Bon Iver.

Growing up as a first-generation Cambodian-American and not feeling represented in the music industry, Thavoron hopes to help pave the way for Southeast/Asian American and queer artists alike looking for a sense of creative community:

“..being surrounded by people I couldn’t fully relate to resorted to me locking myself up in my bedroom to just write to try and make sense of all my differences as a person.”

With coverage including Ones To Watch and Before The Data, Thavoron’s music has been described as deeply reflective, vulnerable, and increasingly rare. Tackling themes like cultural identity, grief, and strained relationships, Thavoron crafts hauntingly melancholy songs that leave a lasting impression.
