Thavoron releases “Good,” available April 26th on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve Records.

Seattle, Washington-based singer-songwriter Thavoron (Tav-er-on) shares his new single & music video Good, set for digital release on April 26th along with the announcement of his forthcoming LP Tommy Loves You, out May 26th through Trailing Twelve Records.

Not far removed from his previous ballad, “Nervous”, Thavoron returns with “Good” - a visceral indie rock gem brimming with yearning and catharsis. Featuring Thavorons’s signature electric guitar and airy vocal performance, the song acts as a plea to a higher power. Thavoron shares his inspiration for the song below.

Growing up queer and as a person of color, I feel like I've always had to prove myself to some extent. I've never felt concrete in anything and have become accustomed to my life circling around other things or people rather than having myself be the primary focal point. I feel like [Good] exists in the realm of desperation and yearning — my own personal cry for help or plea to whatever higher power exists out there.

After releasing his freshman album, Ugly which looks inward on generational trauma, sexuality, and finding one’s place in society, Thavoron continues to deliver intimate and heartfelt moments with “Good”. After an inviting and subdued intro, “Good” drops into a driving Neo-Folk flurry of wailing guitars and widescreen percussion.

I’ve overlooked a lot of traits in other people throughout my life and have accepted them, solely because that’s the same grace I would want other people to give me. I feel like after creating this song I was able to fully remove myself from this perspective and I learned to distinguish clear boundaries as to what I do and don’t deserve. In love, and in the way I treat myself — I’ve always been inspired by the concept of “good” and “bad”. Lyrically, I mention how I’m receiving the short end of the stick in a relationship and just accepting it. In that moment, my intentions were based on the idea of being ‘good’; even though I wasn't being fully satisfied [the bad].

The songwriting on “Good” explores a longing for validation [ I’ll be good, I promise / How can I show I’m honest?] and the lengths one may go to in order to be acknowledged [ On my knees to plead to you / Can you hear me through him?]. Thavoron explores resemblant emotion on his upcoming LP Tommy Loves You where he continues passage into his wandering spirit.

It goes to show that what you think is ‘good’ and ‘need’ is based solely on your own personal bias. This song is the prequel to my revelation that I need to trust in a bigger plan, because things will work out the way they need to.

In the music video for “Good" directed by Maddie Ludgate, we find Thavoron wandering the desert searching for clarity. In this setting, Thavoron occupies dual identities, one as the rugged leather-clad rebel navigating sun-drenched terrain and the other as a linen-draped saint holding space in the solitude of twilight.

Thavoron’s Good is out April 26th as well as his upcoming LP Tommy Loves You out May 26th, 2023 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.

BIO

Thavoron is a 22-year-old Cambodian American artist based in Seattle, Washington. Layering angelic vocals and intimate lyricism over heart-breaking sonic progressions, Thavoron pulls inspiration from contemporaries such as Frank Ocean, Faye Webster, and Bon Iver.

Growing up as a Cambodian-American and not feeling represented in the music industry, Thavoron hopes to help pave the way for Southeast/Asian American and queer artists alike looking for a sense of creative community:

“..being surrounded by people I couldn’t fully relate to resorted to me locking myself up in my bedroom to just write to try and make sense of all my differences as a person.”

With coverage including METAL, Ones To Watch, and Before The Data, Thavoron’s music has been described as deeply reflective, vulnerable, and increasingly rare. Tackling themes like cultural identity, grief, and strained relationships, Thavoron crafts hauntingly melancholy songs that leave a lasting impression.
